This hometown pizzeria has earned enough awards through the years to make even Nick Saban jealous. Aside from winning the title of “Best Pizza” by Hoover Sun readers for six years in a row, Tortuga’s was also named “Top Pizza in Birmingham” by the Birmingham Business Journal and is listed among the “100 Dishes To Try In Alabama Before You Die” by I Love Alabama Food.
There’s nothing fancy or complicated about the menu, just good pie with quality ingredients. Stop in for a thick slice of Chicago style, or customize your own thin crust pizza with your choice of over 20 different toppings.
Vecchia

When: Sunday – Thursday 11am – 9pm; Friday & Saturday: 11am – 10pm
When it comes to the flavors and aesthetics of Italy, Vecchia really brings it home. Aside from pastas and calzones, the menu currently features 14 authentic, old country style pizzas, such as the Margherita, Capriccosa, and Arrabbiata. Each pie is handmade with fresh cut veggies and meats and then cooked to perfection in a wood burning brick oven. If you have dietary restrictions, no problem! Many of the pizzas can be customized to fit vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets.
While you wait for your food, you can hang out by the open air kitchen and watch the pizzaiolos in action, relax outside on the covered patio, or shop the authentic Italian market found inside the restaurant.
Pazzo! Big Slice Pizza

When: Sunday – Thursday: 11am – 9pm; Friday & Saturday: 11am – 10pm
Take the name literally. Pazzo serves up some deliciously huge slices of Greek and Sicilian style pizzas. Choose a classic, like pepperoni thick crust, or go for one of the “premium” pies, such as the Goodfellas special. Either way, you won’t be let down. Stop in for a bite, take it to go, or have it delivered to your home (delivery options may vary).
