When and Where
This year’s Oktoberfest will be held at Railroad Park on Saturday, October 5. The event will run from noon to 7 p.m. Railroad Park is located at 1600 1st Avenue South, Birmingham, Alabama 35233.
Admission
General admission tickets start at $21, while the price may rise as the date approaches. With entry, your ticket will also cover a souvenir beer stein as well as your first brew. If you opt for the Bier Lover pass, your ticket cost will cover a stein as well as four beers. If you have a group of 15 people or more, you can take advantage of special group rates. Designated drivers may enter for $10. Guests 16 years old and younger may enter for free.
Food and Drink
While a giant stein filled with golden brew may be the first thing many guests think of when they here “Oktoberfest,” it’s hard to resist all the delicious German fare available at the park. Various vendors will offer hearty bratwurst, Bavarian pretzels, and more. If you’re looking for something sweet, you can visit the Steel City Pops cart for a flavorful frozen dessert. Of course, you’ll also find a selection of seasonal and German beers available for purchase as well.
Oktoberfest 2019
If you’re up for some friendly competition, you can ask a friend to hold your stein as you join in games like the brawt toss or keg roll racing. You can also test your endurance in the stein hoisting contest, a traditional Bavarian game in which you must hold your drink straight out in front of you as long as possible (or at least longer than the person next to you).
There will be plenty of other fun and games around the festival, and you can always dance along when the band inevitably plays “Chicken Dance.” Musicians will provide live polka throughout the early day, then several local performers will take the stage for the remainder of the festival.
