The show will go on at Birmingham Children’s Theatre at the BJCC on February 1, 8, and 15. The showings start at 10 a.m. and noon each day, with a sensory-friendly performance at noon on Saturday, February 8. Each performance runs for abut 45 minutes. Tickets are available through Eventbrite. The theater is located at 1001 19th Street North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203.

Rapunzel and the Rabbit

The play by Jean Pierce retells the story of Rapunzel, who was locked away in a tower with no contact with the world outside. In this theatrical version directed by Patricia Yates, a clever rabbit finds his way into her chambers, and the two strike up a fast friendship. As the devise a plan to escape, a prince makes his way to the tower to free the young lady inside. The charming performances from the local cast will be complemented by enchanting music by Jay Tumminello.

Birmingham Children’s Theatre

“Rapunzel and the Rabbit” isn’t the first production Pierce and Tumminello have worked on together. They also provided the story and music for “The Little Red Hen” and “The City Mouse & The Country Mouse.” Plays like these are all a part of Birmingham Children’s Theatre’s year-round schedule, as the company always endeavors to produce entertaining, educational shows for young audiences. Each year, the performers play to more than 90,000 Birmingham school students and heads out on tour to reach over 80,000 more across the Southeast.

If your family is particularly fond of rabbits and other furry creatures, you can return to the BJCC later in February for the BCT’s performance of “Bunnicula.” This lighthearted mystery adapts the work of children’s authors James and Deborah Howe, centering on a family who brings home a strange new pet.
