Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see some of America’s most classic films on the big screen? To try and capture the experience of moviegoers from 50, 60, or even 70 years ago? Well, this summer, the Alabama Theatre is giving you the opportunity through their Summer Movie Series.
Every week until August, the Theatre will be screening some of the most well-known, influential movies from our nation’s past. And this week, you can catch a showing of the Oscar-winning classic The Sound of Music on Sunday, June 30.
Tickets are $9 a person, and children 2 and under are free. The Theatre doors will open at 1 pm and the show will start at 2 pm. Prior to the screening, there will be a sing-a-long featuring some of the most well-known songs from the movie accompanied by the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ!
Synopsis
Based on the stage musical of the same name, The Sound of Music tells the real-life story of Maria von Trapp and the Trapp Family Singers – a popular touring group that was active during and after WWII.
In the film, Maria, a postulant at a convent, is called away to be the governess to the children of a widowed naval officer during the Nazi occupation of Austria. She enters the home during a turbulent time, bringing love, life, and music with her.
The Sound of Music is considered one of the greatest films in American history. It won 5 academy awards and was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in 2001.
