Whether you’re into live music, vintage games, or just visiting with friends over some great brews, Saturn in Avondale has something for everyone. The entertainment venue/coffee bar has become one of the Magic City’s go-to places to catch a show, and even when the music is still hours away, there’s plenty of fun to be had.
Go See A Show
From indie rock to country troubadours, 8-bit orchestras and soul revival, there’s something for everyone on Saturn’s stage. The venue brings in acts from near and far, and music lovers can always expect a fantastic show. When the music starts, listeners will immediately notice the incredible sound quality thanks to the state-of-the-art technology throughout the venue. The stellar sound was the result of a partnership between scene veteran Brian Teasley and New York venue powerhouse, The Bowery.
Starting in 2018, the
Secret Stages music festival relocated to the Avondale neighborhood, bringing a summer weekend’s worth of amazing acts to town. Naturally, Saturn is one of the festival’s featured venues. Hang Out At The Satellite
Attached to the venue is a stylish café and bar complete with Wi-Fi. The Satellite is far more than the venue’s waiting area – it’s a casual coffee shop and a well-stocked bar that offers plenty of atmosphere and entertainment day or night. The spot’s Space Age décor pays homage to Alabama’s vital role in the Saturn V project, with Tang-orange accents throughout. Whether you want to bring a laptop and get some work done, sip some delicious Domestique coffee, or treat yourself to a creative cocktail or craft brew, Satellite is ready to accommodate. The bar features a selection of fine beers from Birmingham and beyond, and skilled mixologists can serve up classic mixed drinks as well as a menu of their own signature concoctions.
Play Some Games
On the recurring Vintage Video Game Night, Saturn fills its venue space with over 35 vintage game consoles, from Pong to the N64, and there are a few more recent systems set up as well. On the projector screen above the stage, you may participate in a tournament, whether it’s kart racing,
Smash Bros., or another multiplayer matchup. Satellite also has consoles, board games, and cards set up all around the room for everyday enjoyment. Plan Your Visit
Saturn is located at 200 41st Street South, Birmingham, Alabama 35222. The Satellite café opens at 7 a.m. on Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. on weekends.
