It’s one of the most highly anticipated annual events in the Magic City – for people and their four-legged buddies alike. This year’s Do Dah Day promises to be better than ever. Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 18, and bring your dogs out for some tail-wagging good times in Birmingham’s historic Highland Avenue parks area.
A Paw-some Good Time
A highlight of Do Dah Day, the pet and person parade, starts at 11:01 and meanders along Highland Avenue. Costumes from adorable to unbelievable grab attention from parade viewers, and the spectating pets may catch the occasional treat tossed from decorated floats.
After the parade, join the festivities at Rhodes Park, where you can mix and mingle with pups and their humans, visit a variety of pet-centric vendors, and enjoy live music, food and beverage vendors, and entertainment. There will also be a kids’ area featuring face painting, hair weaving, craft making with McWane Science Center, games, bungee jumping, and more. And of course, there’s no end to the dog petting and people watching you can do throughout the day.
Why Do You Do Dah?
Animal lovers and their best buddies look forward to Do Dah Day every year because it’s always a fun and festive scene. And “always” is a long time – this will be the 41st annual Do Dah Day!
Do Dah Day volunteers work hard every year to make this party come to life and to raise money for animal charities including the Greater Birmingham Humane Society and Friends of Cats and Dogs. Since 1992, the event has raised more than $1.5 million to benefit homeless animals in Jefferson County.
“The event is always excellent fun for the whole family!” raves one reviewer. And another: “Some of my best memories!” And another: “I go every year with my furbaby! Love the parade.”
You’ll see what everyone is barking about when you attend this year’s Do Dah Day at Rhodes Park on May 18. The only thing that remains to be seen is who will enjoy it more – you or Fido.
