LEGO has become one of the largest toy makers in the world because their building blocks bring out children’s vivid imaginations. Your family can let their creativity flow at the BrickFair Alabama LEGO Fan Expo this month!
When and Where
The expo will be held at the BJCC on January 18 and 19. It starts at 10 a.m. each day. Tickets are available at BrickFair’s website. If you can’t make it there until later in the day, BrickFair also offers a half-day ticket at a discount. The BJCC’s address is 2100 Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203.

When LEGO comes to the Magic City, they’ll bring two full days of fun and games. Your family can marvel at the LEGO models and floor mosaic, participate in bingo, or challenge each other to a round of miniature golf. Of course, there will be plenty of LEGO blocks for everyone to form into their own creations, as well as a bounce house and ring toss. If any children need some downtime, they can sit down with a good book at the reading rest stop. You can also explore the expo’s shopping options for some unique finds.
Fan-Made Wonders
Throughout the expo, you’ll see the creations of dedicated fans and builders, and you’ll have the opportunity to chat with them about their ideas and techniques. Over the course of the weekend, you might see scale models, figures of beloved cartoon characters, and all kinds of amazing works meticulously made by hand. LEGO fans call these works “MOC,” for “My Own Creation.” MOC designs spring from their builder’s imagination, using any combination of LEGO pieces from different kits to design something entirely new.
Going to Uptown
The BJCC is right next to the Uptown entertainment district, which is worth a visit while you’re in the neighborhood. If you get there early, you can grab a cup of coffee at Octane. When it’s time to step out for lunch or dinner afterward, you have a variety of wonderful restaurants in walking distance.
